Woolworths opened in the port town of Lymington, Hampshire, in 1952. This photo is from the day it opened. The premises used to be a shop called C.S.Barrow.

At some point the building was modernised and you can see it looks completely different from the opening day.

The following photos are from inside the store at Christmas 1994, thanks to David Austen sharing them in Woolworths History and Pictures. It’s fantastic to see the floor tiles, the 90s products, the PoS, peppermint blue cash desk, staff and their uniform. Like travelling back in time.

This Woolworths traded for 56 years.

The store closed in December 2008.

Today there’s a Poundland here.

Dear Madam, dear Sir, So many thanks to the persons who sent all these wonderful photos of Woolworth Lymington . It really looked so lively and by doing so, it brings back so many happy souvenirs to actual life. I like their uniform too. So pleased to look at it. Best regards, Marie-Odile CLOUET 😘😘
