High Street, Barmouth, Gwynedd LL42 1LW
Woolworths opened in Barmouth in 1953. This was a seaside store in Wales – Barmouth is said to be southern Snowdonia most popular seaside resort. The store was in a simple single-storey building, yet the 1972 store list has “St Annes Mansions” written as the building name. Perhaps St Anne’s Mansions was demolished and a new building erected at this location.
With thanks to Kevin Avery, we have this 1957 staff photo and the following names: “The Store Manager Mr L R Masters 3rd from the right seated … 4th from the right seated is Mr L V Hailes the Superintendent”

This store traded for 55 years, closing in December 2008.

Today you’ll find the Original Factory Store in the old building. You can recognise the Woolworths frontage – the black granite risers, cream tiles and windows/doors.
