86 High Street, Scunthorpe, South Humberside DN15 6HH
Woolworths opened on Scunthorpe High Street in 1927. The earliest photo I can find is from 1960, where from the style of the building we can guess there was a 1950s makeover from the original building that opened in 1927.
This is a formal staff photo from the 1960s, taken on the rooftop of the store. It must have been a large store as that is a huge amount of staff, and look how many women worked there! A lady sent this photo in to the Scunthorpe Telegraph, and her mother is in the third row, wearing white, second from the right. She was 15, and used to sell ice cream, this being her first job.

This is another 1960s view, with the striped canopies open. The street looks very busy with shoppers. The street was pedestrianised soon after this photo was taken.

In 2002 this store closed, as the Scunthorpe branch of Woolworths relocated to a £3.5 million building in the Parishes shopping mall (Store 1244).
Sadly, that lasted only six years before closing, the final customers being served on December 27, 2008.
Today the building is still clearly recognisable as an ex-Woolworths store, and it is now B&M.
