Woolworths opened on Preston Road in Wembley in 1955. It was in the parade of shops just by the Preston Road London Underground Station (Metropolitan Line). This store traded until the end, closing in January 2009. An extract from the Wembley Matters blog says: “Everybody regretted the loss of the Woolworth store not just as a source of “bits and pieces”, but as a social centre where people bumped into each other. “Woolworths made it a real shopping centre”.“
Today there is a Tesco Express in the former Woolworths building.
